When the heat goes up, we all want something cold, creamy and refreshing. What could be better than delicious ice cream transformed into silky smooth milkshakes?
You are invited to scroll through my blog for amazing summertime sweet treats. Back in the Good Old Days, every town had a malt shop or soda fountain, where scoops of humble vanilla ice cream were transposed into the most glorious taste sensations on Earth. The tables were draped with red and white checked tablecloths and the popular hangouts were the place to take your favorite girl. Behind the counter was your friend, the Soda Jerk, so named simply because his predecessors jerked the handle to dispense fizzy water. You made friends with him for one simple reason: he controlled how much of that delicious flavored syrup went into your milkshake.
The following recipes make one serving. If your blender or shake machine is larger, feel free to double or triple the recipe. Or, simply divide into smaller glasses.
Books & Broth brings those wonderful summertime flavors to your table. Enjoy the visual treats, then make your own refreshing shakes from my simple recipes.
With only four common ingredients, this refreshing shake will please your taste buds. In this recipe I have used 1/2 cup 1% milk and low fat ice cream. But for a richer-tasting shake feel free to use whole milk and premium ice cream.
1/4 cup of strawberry espresso syrup and just 1/8 teaspoon of Kool-Aid drink mix powder will give your shake that authentic fresh strawberry aroma and taste.
