A special thanks goes to Sue Ann Dunlevie, who was indispensable in helping me understand the blogging phenomenon. This wonderful milkshake was created with her in mind using Key Limes from the Florida Keys.
There is no other lime with the same depth of flavor anywhere in the United States. This mildly sour fruit’s slightly greenish hue provides a most delightful and distinctive blend of citrus notes, which adds greatly to the simple majesty of this humble tree fruit. Its complex flavor makes for one exquisite creme pie — or a really good milkshake.
1/3 Cup cold milk (I use 1% but any fat content will do).
1-1/2 to 2 Tablespoons authentic Key Lime juice.
1-1/2 to 2 cups vanilla ice cream. (I use low fat but any good ice cream will work)
3 Shortbread or butter cookies, crushed.
Place first three ingredients in mixer cup, stirring gently with a long handle spoon.
Add the ice cream and insert cup onto mixer platform or place all into blender.
Add the chopped or crushed cookie pieces.
In a minute or two you will have one very refreshing Key Lime Pie milkshake. Enjoy!
