Here’s how to transform ordinary canned green beans into a vegetable everyone will love.
To a can of cut (or whole) green beans with juice, add a teaspoon of granulated garlic, a teaspoon of dried onion and a teaspoon of ham base. Cover and simmer over low heat for 1/2 hour to 2 hours. The beans are pretty durable.
The finished product has a lively, fresh flavor and reminds most folks of the refreshing salt air on our ocean beaches–only in their mouths. This simple combination was the absolute favorite vegetable when I cooked meals for hundreds of folks in a retirement village.
Paste-type ham base is available at any restaurant supply house and some major retailers–maybe even a Costco in your region. More and more stores are recognizing the demand for quality meat bases of all kinds.
You won’t need to add any extra salt or butter, as the four ingredients don’t need either to become memorable.
